Project: Architetti Associati Marelli e Molteni
Location: Cantù (CO)
Type: Conservation Restoration – Late 18th to Early 19th Century Building
For the Casa Prepositurale di S. Paolo in Cantù, our construction company carried out a historical restoration and enhancement of this building, which dates back to the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The project, of a conservative nature, focused on the systems, finishes, and functionality of the spaces, with the goal of adapting the structure to contemporary needs while fully respecting its original historical features.
The work involved both the interior spaces—improving usability and comfort—and the structural and plant components, upgrading them in accordance with current regulations. Special attention was given to the integration of materials and interventions within the building, aiming to preserve its original architectural identity, which includes a grand Renaissance-style entrance portal and an internal portico reminiscent of 16th-century Spanish courtyard architecture.
During the restoration, which was completed in 2014, significant architectural elements previously unknown came to light, such as the lower part of a medieval tower. These discoveries highlight the ancient origins of the building complex and underscore our company's meticulous approach to the restoration of heritage sites. It was an honor for us to contribute to this rediscovery, adding a new chapter to the history of the city of Cantù.
The spaces were also redeveloped to host a small museum that preserves the artistic heritage of the Pieve di Cantù, along with the Archive of the Prepositura—a valuable collection of historical documents that helps safeguard the memory of the community and its territory.
This project reflects our construction company’s commitment to the restoration and revitalization of buildings intended for public use, ensuring high execution standards and full respect for the historical and social context in which we operate. A project that testifies to our dedication to enhancing the cultural and historical heritage of the Brianza region.
(The building is part of the "Cammina in città" urban heritage initiative.)
